CFW Explained: What Custom Firmware Changes for Monitoring in Scooter Tools
Protocols
What does CFW change for Scooter Tools?
Nothing about how Scooter Tools works. CFW (custom firmware) is third-party firmware some owners install on their scooter; Scooter Tools reads data from it on supported models the same way it reads Official firmware — it never installs, modifies or unlocks anything.
What CFW means in practice
- CFW is installed on the scooter by its owner, outside of Scooter Tools
- Scooter Tools only reads Bluetooth data your scooter already reports
- Compatibility depends on the specific model and CFW build, not CFW in general
What actually happens when you connect
- 1
Scooter Tools scans over Bluetooth
It looks for any compatible scooter nearby, regardless of firmware.
- 2
It reads the reported firmware
Once connected, the scooter reports its firmware details, including whether it's running CFW.
- 3
It displays the same dashboard
Speed, battery, range and trip data appear the same way as on Official firmware, for verified combinations.
What stays the same on CFW
- Live speed, battery percentage and estimated range
- Ride mode and trip history
- No cloud account required
- No commands sent that change scooter settings
Good to know
- Not every CFW build on every model is verified yet
- Scooter Tools can't help install, update or troubleshoot CFW itself — that's outside its scope
Troubleshooting
My scooter runs CFW and some fields are missing
Check the compatibility table for your model — some CFW builds report fewer fields over Bluetooth than others.
Local only, by design
Whether your scooter runs Official firmware or CFW, the connection to Scooter Tools is a direct Bluetooth link between your phone and the vehicle.
